Time and time again we notice the expansion of the cybersecurity industry. We even have predictions for where its headed in the years to come. There are a variety of jobs in the industry, skills employers are looking for, schools to attend to receive a corresponding degree and companies to work for. As of this year, the following positions are the most in-demand jobs in cybersecurity and why we need these positions filled.

Penetration testers

If you’ve kept up with the news this year, you’ll have noticed the rise in ransomware. Ransomware saturates the entire world of security. You may be familiar with NotPetya and WannaCry, two examples of how these attacks are becoming more sophisticated. The role of a penetration tester (also called pen tester) is to evaluate the security of computers and their networks by simulating a cyber-attack.

Cloud and network security engineer

Right in line with penetration testers, protecting network security is a task of its own. Making sure both these security platforms, as well as the data stored within them, are secure from those who may present a threat is a high priority. If you’re keeping an eye out for a position in cloud and network security, you won’t have to look far. As a cloud and network security engineer, your days will be filled with problem solving, investigating and analyzing all things security.

Cybersecurity engineers

As stated above, the industry of cybersecurity is always expanding, evolving and becoming more sophisticated. When things change, cybersecurity engineers are there to inform companies about the newest methods and the top cybersecurity best practices to stay ahead of the game.

CISOs

Finally, let’s talk leadership. CISOs play a big role and bring a great deal of responsibility to the table. As a chief information security officer, you will lead cybersecurity strategies for an entire company. Taking on this role with a company comes with a lot of responsibilities, and there are a number of skills needed in order to succeed and perform well.

In 2016 alone, there were one million job openings in cybersecurity. As the industry continues growing, it’s safe to say there won’t be a shortage of security jobs any time soon. If you’re looking to begin a career in cybersecurity, strengthen the skills you already have or are an employer looking to make your company stronger in these areas, our Secure360 conferences are just what you’ve been looking for.
