Secure360

Another successful Student360 event

February 14, 2020 by Secure360 and UMSA

Audience listening to a speaker at Student360

We recently wrapped up the fourth year of Student360, and we’re pleased to report it was a resounding success. All of us at UMSA and the rest of the Student360 team had a wonderful time at this year’s event, full of professors, students, thought-provoking sessions and experienced leaders across the security industries. We want to extend a special thanks to Target, who graciously hosted Student360 on January 31 at their state-of-the-art corporate headquarters. Keep reading for highlights of this year’s conference.

What we heard from you

Students gave high-praise to this year’s Student360 event, giving the day an overall score of a whopping 4.8 (out of 5)! A response from our post-event survey summed it up well: “I thought meeting with industry professionals was an invaluable experience. Overall, the event was a great way to open my eyes to what a career in cybersecurity entails.”

What we loved about Student360

We began the day with opening Keynote Speaker, Rich Agostino, Target’s Chief CIO, who talked about how Target keeps their business and guest information secure and stays one step ahead of cybersecurity threats. From there, the day was filled with various sessions that whetted the appetites of every student and faculty member in attendance, those studying everything from cybersecurity, to business continuity, to governance, risk and compliance, and beyond. Our favorite part of the day was watching these students truly show their passion for the career they are just embarking on… some doing so earlier than others through networking and mock interviews with recruiters and current industry professionals on-site.

Shout-out to our 2020 session sponsor, ISSA, and our 2020 recruitment sponsor, St. Mary’s University.

What you learned at this student conference

Students got a comprehensive look at their future industry through the soft, technical and career skills sessions. They got to experience “A Day in the Life of a CISO,” as they heard from security leaders during a special leadership panel. They networked with their peers and graduate students. They participated in interviews both mock and real. They listened to an FBI Cyber Case Study, learning not only how cyber-related criminal activity is investigated, but also the potential IT and cybersecurity careers available in the FBI. They took the first step in what was likely their first professional conference. And they ate a free lunch, which is never not awesome (all thanks to Target, by the way).

How to take your learning beyond Student360

We may have just wrapped this year’s conference but plans for next year’s event are already underway. We’re very excited to announce that next year’s Student360 event will take place at Medtronic on February 19, 2021! Save the Date!

Can’t wait until then? We don’t blame you! Register for Secure360 Twin Cities, the leading Midwestern conference of choice for cybersecurity, business continuity and risk management professionals. Secure360 2020 will be held at Mystic Lake Center on May 5-6, 2020. Student rates are available. Call it your graduation – register today.
